WHO WE ARE
ABOUT US
The Movement Factory is an award-winning community social enterprise that uses dance as a tool to create positive change and cohesion within London’s most deprived communities. We want to ensure all individuals can lead healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives and achieve their aspirations through our dance and development provisions.
Established in 2001 by award winning community entrepreneur Leanne Pero, The Movement Factory’s humble roots began in Peckham and has amassed outstanding credentials having engaged over half a million young people in the last 22 years. The Movement Factory uses dance to engage young people and develop their physical and mental wellbeing through our unique methods of teaching and delivery. We provide a safe community space that allows young people to realise their potential and flourish, helping them to break negative cycles.
Since 2020, we have witnessed the mental health crisis young people are facing. Whilst we know that our dance classes help to combat this through fostering community, building confidence, and boosting mood through fitness, The Movement Factory wanted to develop tailored mental health and emotional development programmes for different groups of young people to directly tackle the mental health crisis. Out of this, Elevate and Nourish were born!
